Solar System Ready

Well, despite the Mother’s Day snow storm, 28 degree lows tonight, and a broken camper–all potentially attitude busters, I am making some forward progress. Thanks to friends who figured it all out, the solar system is ready for the first test.

Below is that panel. It is up against a love seat, which gives you an idea of the size.

This is the back of the panel, showing lots of wiring coming out to the charge controller.Eventually I will mount the charge controller in the camper storage area, away from rain. All that extra length of cordage will allow me to move the solar panel out away from the campers or trees.

From the charge controller, there is an inline fuse and then wires out to the camper battery. I used a small pile of books to stand in for the battery. Again, a long length of wire which I may need when I figure out where to mount the charge controller.

While the camper is in the shop, I am having them install a twin 12 volt outlet inside the camper. I already have 12 volt charging cords for most of my electronics. The inside camper lights will also run off the battery. The refrigerator and heater will run off the propane.

I will be gone six weeks but want to test it all out at a nearby campground. All I have to do for now is connect to the battery and then make observations about where I want the charge controller.  Sure hope that camper part comes in and my camper is good to go. Maybe this week; the part is due in on the 15th.
