Fun at Youth Camp

The last few days I explored another section of North Dakota. I was at a youth camp on the Sheyenne River, which flows into the Red River. The Red River creates the border between ND and MN, flows north, into Lake Winnipeg, and often floods (Grand Forks in 1997, and Fargo several times since).

In the above map, the Red River Valley is highlighted in pale peach. The Sheyenne River is highlighted in purple. The map below is a close up of the Sheyenne River area. I was at a camp just above where the river enters Lake Ashtabula, at the top of the map. The map below also has an inset showing location in the state. The red line running north/south is a Scenic Byway.

In the past, I was on the Scenic Byway to the south of I-94. Beautiful, as was this northern section. Both sections follow the river bottomland, This is a great area to explore, although I think mostly locals hang out here. Hope I am not giving away a state secret.

Camp was great. It wouldn’t be the same without rock hard bunks, iffy food and rainy weather. S’mores make everything great, though. The old log worship center has a large fireplace where we huddled, worshipped, and sang the classics (Oh You Can’t Get to Heaven, Lord I Lift Your Name on High, etc).

Here is our awesome group!

Camp has a zipline, across the river.

In the background, the infamous camp bunks

Lots of fun and plenty of White Cheddar Popcorn

Service Project: Fleece Blankets. Where are the boys?????
