Humidity, Routines, Tropical Storms

I remember  growing up with high humidity in Akron. However, compared to what I live in now, it seems more than humid. The air is wet, drenched. When I step outside my camper with my morning cup of coffee, I find more than morning dew. My chair, table, cushions are wet. Wetter than the moisture that dew normally leaves behind. With dew, I just brush off my chair and sit down. Today, I dig out a towel and mop up real moisture.

I have been staked out in Akron for 10 days. We have a great routine: I come over to Mom’s around noon and make lunch, then hang out until dinner time, when I cook again. I have used many of the fresh veggies that are available in late August: eggplant, squash, giant tomatoes, fresh greens, and herbs. The fruit! Peaches, plums, nectarines! After dinner, Tango and I head home and walk around, then listen to NFL games or other things on satellite radio. Routine is sometimes good for an inveterate explorer. Still, I am nearly ready to move on.

My schedule is/was to head towards Florida on Wednesday. I checked the weather and discovered a tropical storm that is set to cross the area. I may wait a day, just hanging out in the campground. Several trail heads take off from the area and Tango and I are itching to explore.

Speaking of the campground, I highly recommend Silver Springs Park, operated by the City of Stow, OH. The cost for 5 nights: $40. They only provide electricity but they have a dump station and fresh water. The park is small and surrounded by trees. I found a new-to-me bird (Red-Bellied Woodpecker) and the largest Waxwing ever. Most of the campers are locals, but a few long-distance wanderers have also passed through. If you are traveling through Northeastern OH, you will find this gem just south of I-80.

Juvenile Red-Bellied Wood Pecker just like the one I saw.
