Hurricane Matthew

aTracking maps now show Hurricane Matthew hovering along the Florida (Atlantic) coast. I am about 57 miles inland, in Melrose, FL. If Matthew were a Category 1 storm and I lived in a house, I would not worry much. However, the storm currently is Category 4 and will likely be a Category 3 when it brushes Florida. I have no doubt that my camper would sustain serious damage, if not blow over! I am under large, ancient oak trees which could easily land on Blue Moon.

So, the plan right now is to head west to Tallahassee area. It’s only 163 miles and mostly Interstate (I-75 to I-10). That could change, depending on the actual track of Matthew as it gets to Florida.

I spent time last night and this morning reading up on RVers and Hurricanes. The sensible thing is to head out. RVers are already discussing online the various  travel routes. I have also received some good advice: take a bag in van with meds, dog food, human food and valuables. I already have lots of water, both gallons and smaller bottles.

If you want to follow along, I have FINALLY added my Jane’s Journals Facebook feed on the right sidebar! Or, you can go directly to my page there. I added this set up because as I travel along in search of a safe haven, it will be easier and faster to post updates and photos on Facebook.
