Who Let the Savages Out?

I cringe when I read American History and find a passage where native people are called “savages.” The term comes loaded with judgment and derision. Lowly savages! A decade ago, after reading several books that portray the atrocities Columbus and his men committed on the Caribbean Islands and elsewhere, I realized that the real savages in the rise of America were the white men. Rape, murder, mayhem, exploitation. Greed.

I am not the only one who finds the current administration, including our President, savage in their vision and greedy in their behavior. No one seems to matter other than the white people. Anything, everything can be exploited and destroyed. Worse, they claim to be Christian yet cannot extend the biblical command for good stewardship to anything (e.g., the environment) beyond their bank accounts.

It is an important paradox – the name callers and the bullies being the actual savages.

  1. That was well-written. To the point, and short. I think sometimes that writing style is more effective in getting a message across.
