Incredible Innovations: E-Bicycle

I own a beautiful folding bike, which I love, so I will not buy another bike soon. But when I do, I will go for an electric bike (e-bicycle, e-bike). A blog reader introduced me to them and I have been researching the e-bike phenomenon. I started the search at Amazon and found many examples. The bikes are pricey, for sure, but surely they will come down by the time I retire?!

The great thing about electric bikes is that you can choose to petal or use the electric mode. I can imagine many paths that I have not biked because of the hills, like one in Bryce National Park.

I know from a visit there, that the trail to the left in the photo above has some long hilly spots. How nice to have some e power!

An electric bike weighs about 15-20 pounds more than a regular bike, because of the battery (approx 60 pounds total, depending on bike) So, it is not great to take up and down stairs, but would certainly work getting in and out of my van. Woo hoo! Maybe by the time I make a purchase, they will have a little solar panel to charge the battery. Or, maybe my solar panel will work.
