Pondering World Affairs and Media

American culture is an endless well of subject matter-think Donald Sterling, NBA owner. Lately, though, I have been thinking about all the global tragedies: Ukraine aggression, the South Korean ferry sinking, the  loss of flight MH 370, the deadly Mt. Everest avalanche. Those are just the big headlines. Many more events go unnoticed: Egypt sentences 700…

Stealth

I always take off the Sunday after Easter. That is today! However, with the winter weather and my camper in the shop, I am sitting at home in my jammies, playing around with my web site settings (fixed the comments section so that anyone can comment now). A wonderful young man is filling in for…

Winter Storm Watch

After getting all excited about going camping again, I just heard an emergency announcement on TV: we are in a storm watch for up to 12″ of snow–starting Saturday night, through Sunday. Holy snow storm. This is the latest I have ever experienced. I feel like winter will never end.

Mother Goose

After I heard that the camper part takes 3 weeks to arrive at the dealer, I reorganized the van and set out like the old days! Tango and I went out for one night and came home this afternoon. We head out again tomorrow afternoon to camp for about 4 nights, in the van. I…

Camper Update

Well, good news/bad news. The lift system problem is under warranty. Yeah! The part takes up to three weeks to arrive at the RV dealer. Sob. That means no camping until mid-May. Or does it? Last year at this time I was still van camping. The popup has spoiled me, but there is no reason…

Interesting Easter Bunnies

The Easter Bunny is not like Santa, who can travel the entire world in one night. Hopping makes for slow going. Therefore, each country has their own Easter Bunny. I read recently about the Australian Bilby which is not a direct relative of the Easter Bunny but plays the same role in Australia.  He is…

5K Win

I walk/jogged a 5K this morning and placed first in my age group! I have a medal even. So exciting…motivation to do more and get fit after a long cold winter.

Bird Meeting

I stayed in bed about an hour this morning listening to the birds. They reminded me of a loud meeting. In the background I heard the constant song/chatter of the sparrow. The yellow-eyed Brewers Blackbird offered his one note, a sweet threeeeee. A Crow pitched in now and then with his grumpy caaaww. The Doves…
