Ellen: finally, a great Oscar host. She was fresh and funny. For once, I did not cringe when the host spoke. I love the whole thing about ordering pizza for the stars.

Mothers: many of the actors brought their mom as a date. Several winners thanked their moms, along with everyone else. Jared Leto was especially eloquent about his mom. He wins “best son” award for the night.

Old Folks: so many of the nominees were over 60, including Bruce Dern, Judi Dench, Meryl Streep, and June Squibb. Better Midler performed the tribute song to movie people who died last year.

Stage: not overdone with flashing lights and glitz. Simple by Oscar standards.

Dresses: conservative, lovely, feminine Ellen, Moms, Old Folks, lovely gowns, and simplicity. A Great Awakening in Hollywood???
