New Valances for Popup Camper

T-minus 21 days and counting! I leave then on my 6-week sabbatical, during which I will travel in my popup camper, Half Moon. So, time to finish up my redecorating project, which I fondly call the Woman Cave Project. A few days ago I completed the new valances.

These valances are over 10 feet long and about 10″ deep. I used a heavy cotton print from fabric.com. The cotton will get a bit wrinkly from putting the camper up and down, but they will definitely look better than what was there.

Steps:

Removed valances that came with camper. This took seconds, because they were mounted using a long velcro strip.Woo hoo!

Measured the existing valances and assessed construction technique (a ruffled lower section on a long narrow band on top, which is where the velcro goes).

Removed pricey velcro strips from original valances to reuse on new ones

Constructed new valances, a bit wider than originals.

Other tips: after all that gathering, I hand basted ruffled section in place before sewing.
