Contrary to what I reported in my address mayhem post, all is NOT well with the bank. They called me a few days later and said the residence address will not work, period. I explained that another rep told me all I needed was a PO Box and the problem would be solved. Not true says this gal.
I gave up and let them close the account. Why not? I have another online bank and will use it until they rebel. Apparently a database exists that lists addresses of RV parks and they are not valid addresses (no matter how long you live there) for banks. I understand they are also lowering the boom on mail drop addresses that look like a residence address.
The bottom line here, as outlined by the Patriot Act, if an American Citizen cannot provide a valid residence address (not an RV park or box service with street address) you cannot get a bank account. No problem getting driver’s license, library card, etc.
