Climate Hall of Fame: Patagonia, Ocean Researchers

If you are tired of all the climate stuff, I will be returning to other topics, soon! I have things to report about life in Sequim, making friends, hitting the Y, and a new walk-on ferry service to Seattle.

But first, a look at some folks taking a stand! Since outlining my lower carbon emission budget, I am more aware of people and organizations who are doing their part to address both climate change and other global pollution issues. In the news yesterday:

Patagonia: They produce pricey outdoor gear and apparel and have long been advocates of climate change education. They received a $10 million tax break thanks to Trump’s tax program to help corporations and the wealthy. They chose to donate the entire amount to “climate change education” Just when I start feeling that corporate leadership is hopeless, I read a story like this. Their clothing is out of my price range, but I will look for their stuff on clearance and used at places like Ebay.

eXXpedition: A group of women researchers raising awareness of and exploring solutions to plastic pollution in the ocean. They sail around the world while doing plastic research and education others. Conde Nast recently ran an article about their work. Plastic pollution is related to carbon emissions because manufacturing plants in China use electricity from antiquated and inefficient coal-fired power plants.
