Yin and Yang in the New Congress

I remember when I first learned about the concept of yin and yang. I was in college, in the 70s. I was a spiritual seeker even back then and first read about it in a comparative religions class. You can read a brief description of Yin-Yang here, and a formal definition at Wikipedia.

What embedded most in my memory back then and the part that most intrigues me at the moment:

Yin and Yang explains, “how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another,”

Said another way, the universe wants balance and, when out of balance, it creates energy to bring “things” back into balance. I know that is vague. What are “things?”  However, the yin-yang concept has informed science, medicine, philosophy, and politics among other fields.

Well, here is where this is taking me today, as we swear in a historically diverse House of Representatives, it seems that in the unbalanced situation of the Yang Trump Era, the “universe” has produced a highly Yin House of Representatives. I know that there are gains in all races and across the political spectrum, but I am especially intrigued by the diverse group of women who were just sworn in for the first time. After all Trump’s talk about grabbing pussy’s, his reported infidelities, the plastic, shallow nature of the women who surround him PLUS his racism, it simply makes sense, in terms of yin and yang, that this group of women arose.

Muslims, Native Americans, African Americans, Hispanics! What sweet justice after 4 years of marginalizing people in these groups. Yin to Trump’s Yang.
