Another Library Card and Cigarette Butt Karma

Monday and Tuesdays are my days off. On my first Monday, I headed straight into the small city of Oak Harbor. It is only about 10 miles, which is really sweet. I like having better access to a grocery and other amenities. First stop: laundromat. Second stop: library. I had already registered for my Sno-Isle Library card online, all I needed to do was get my permanent one and pick up my holds! I also wanted to use the Wi-Fi since my hot spot is still not working.

This is my 4th Washington library card: Spokane, Sequim, Key Center (Pierce County), and now Oak Harbor. I feel quite special having so many, and I am pleased that all the libraries have reciprocal privileges. I have a stack of movies for the upcoming week and a bunch of books.

More news from Deception State Park: As I cleaned up the day-use area on Saturday and Sunday, I was stunned by how many people toss cigarette butts on the ground. I pick them all up with my handi trash picker, and, as I did so, I thought about the fact that I was once a smoker. Way back when, I too dropped my butts on the ground. Sometimes, I even tossed them out the window while driving. What a dolt! I offer no excuse for such behavior but am pleased that I seem to be working out that cigaretter karma here at Whidbey Island. I remember that each time I pick one up, and I wish the process of sowing and reaping was always so clear cut in life.

Picking up trash near the shoreline is quite satisfying! I think, also, about the amount of plastic that floats in the ocean and am downright proud that I am playing a part in keeping more plastic out! It feels like good and important work as I age.

Every Saturday night in the summer, the park has a free concert in the Amphitheater! A traditional Irish music band played this weekend. It was interesting for about 20 minutes then the music sounded all the same. However, each week will bring something different. The amphitheater is awesome and when you are sitting you get quite a view of Deception Pass.

Amphitheater:

In a few weeks on my days off, I head over to the San Juan Islands on the ferry out of Anacortes, WA. I wanted to be sure and get to the San Juans, considering they are a stone’s throw from Whidbey Island! I have a one-night reservation at a state park (Moran) on Orcas Island. It is difficult to get a campground reservation this late in the season; I lucked out finding even one night. Of course, it looks like the worst, most exposed site ever, but at least it is a safe place for Tango and me to hole up for the night! I also have my spot on the ferry reserved.  Can’t wait for more Island/ferry adventure.

In the following, the San Juans are white. You can find Whidbey Island, where I am, in the lower, right-hand corner. If you look closely, you can also see Deception Pass and an arrow. I pick up the ferry to the San Juans in Anacortes, north of the pass.

Gorgeous view of a few of the San Juan Islands.
